EMBRACE A CHILD
The Care Children’s Academy is a Quaker preschool/primary school and orphanage in Uganda. In the last five years the school has grown from 57 children and 4 teachers to 186 students and 57 orphans, requiring 8 teachers. Since Uganda was totally shut down for over 22 months during Covid, these children are years behind.
The school survives on local leadership and donations, and American Quaker donations alone, without any large NGO support, a testament to what faithful, grassroots stewardship can accomplish. This is a clear signal that more Friends’ engagement and input is needed.
Our Quaker values of equality and the inherent worth of every person call us to ensure that poverty and geography do not determine a child’s future. Investing in this school is investing in peace. Educated, nourished and supported children are less susceptible to exploitation and more capable of building just communities.
Care Children’s Academy is not a distant charity – it is our institution, and tending it is simply stewarding our own.
